My Concern, My Opinion & My Worries to My Country

I want to share and expressed my concern about what was happening around us in Malaysia. Our leaders seemed more preoccupied with positions and perk and keep appointing persons of salvage value which their depreciation rate has indicated that they have no salvage value indeed.

Their thinking on making Malaysia more progressive and forward looking seemed to be directionless. The role of Islam also looked to be diminished when one read the judgement of Indera Ghandi case. The crime prevention methodology was "zero" by our myopic views on democracy.

We always thought that democracy, human right.International convention will make us the better person. Who design such principle?, we are mere parrots who become the agent for this grand master. In the end we are going to loose what our for forefathers have stood up for us.

Everybody from NGOs, bar councils, writers, poetry are licking us "dry." Whose fault is this. I believed we will be "dead dried."

Crime Cases

I agree if the people said that the crime situation in the country is extremely worrisome. The people, almost without exception, have their own horror stories about armed robberies, car jacking, snatch thefts, attempted abductions and gang violence.

So much so that the streets in our major urban areas are often no-go zones at night. Is this any way to live, when we have to constantly look over our shoulder, be wary if a motorcyclist comes too close to us and where security guards are needed to escorts us to our cars in shopping mall car parks?

We will be angry when the tourists and the people from other countries try to compare Malaysia is worst than Singapore, but it has to be admitted that in the areas of policing, levels of crime, personal safety and border controls, the city-state seems to be doing things right. Businesses and investors are sitting up and taking note of such things.

Yes, Singapore still has the Internal Security Act(ISA). But it has not been used for the preventive detention of criminals. Rather, such elements have been identified and arrested though good investigatory and police techniques and by the rigorous enforcement of laws by an on-the-ball judicial system.

There's much we can learn from this, if we remove the blindfolds from our eyes.

Waste of time to talking about Arabs

We are wasting our time even talking about the Arabs. The Quran itself says about the Arabs :-

9:97 The Arabs are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, and the most likely to ignore the laws that GOD(Allah Subhana wa'tallah) has revealed to His messenger. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

9:98 Some Arabs consider their spending to be a loss, and even wait in anticipation that a disaster may hit you. It is they who will incur the worst disaster. GOD is Hearer, Omniscient.

9:99 Other Arabs do believe in GOD and the Last Day, and consider their spending to be a means towards GOD, and a means of supporting the messenger. Indeed, it will bring them nearer; GOD will admit them into His mercy. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

9:101 Among the Arabs around you, there are hypocrites. Also, among the city dwellers, there are those who are accustomed to hypocrisy. You do not know them, but we know them. We will double the retribution for them, then they end up committed to a terrible retribution.

Three verses in the Quran condemn the hypocritical behaviours exhibited by the Arabs. the only Arabs who are exempted are those who are believers :-

9:100 As for the early vanguards who immigrated (Muhajirin), and the supporters who gave them refuge (Ansar) and those who followed them in righteousness, GOD is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. He has prepared for them gardens with flowing streams, wherein they abide forever. This is the greatest triumph.

But other than these, most other Arabs are condemned.

We have to make a comparison - the type of Arab that we see parading on TV today, as well as in the mosques and in the jihadi movements - are they the hypocrite or non hypocrite type? Unfortunately the prevalent Arab attitude now has led them to disaster - a continuous series of disasters that has been going on for the past 700 years or more.

So please be careful who we become infatuated with. Just like a bad virus, foolish behaviors is also highly contagious, especially when it is camouflaged under the name of religion.

The Common Things That We Ignored

Things in Common, authored by Syed Akbar Ali, is in a sense a sequel to Malaysia and the Club of Doom. In either book, the author has his sights trained on Muslims and how their practices do not accord with the tenets of the Islamic faith as laid out in the Quran. However, in other espects, Things in Common departs from Malaysia and the Club of Doom as this time around, the author goes further by illustrating how some of those actions are reflective of the traditions or practices of the adherents of other faiths.

For Muslims who take pride that the Quran is the final Message sent by God as all earlier ones deviated from its original Message, this must come as a shock – to be told that you are no different from those you claim are in error. Stylistically, the author has maintained the informality of Malaysia and the Club of Doom. The book is simple to read and the arguments easy to follow. However, this is the least significant aspect of the book.

What is significant is that the book is a timely reminder that Muslims may be in danger of abandoning the true spiritual traditions that is Islam and does so by holding up a mirror for Muslims to see what their true reflection looks like. It does so forcefully and makes no apologies for doing so.
Granted, at a time when Islam – the religion – seems to be taking a lot of brickbats, such criticisms and hard talking may be somewhat uncomfortable. It is all too easy to think that Islam itself is being besieged from without and within.

However, the focus of the book isn’t on Islam but those who call themselves Muslims and seen in this light, Things in Common is merely staying true to message inherent in this Quranic verse:

And when it is said to them, “Follow what Allah has revealed,” they say, “Rather, we will follow that which we found our fathers doing.” Even though their fathers understood nothing, nor were they guided? (2:170)

Castigating Muslims for aping others, knowingly or unknowingly, and abandoning what Allah has revealed.

Conclusion

So, it the book worth a read? I think so. Like any book, one can quibble about this or that – such as the fact that there are some portions of the present book which repeats the themes covered in Malaysia and the Club of Doom – but such remarks are just that, mere quibbles.

Its sensible to be self-critical and if we Muslims lack the wherewithal or the courage to do so, the author facilitates the process and does so with his usual verve and panache.

Criminals : Welcome to "New Mexico" in Southeast Asia!...

The hot issue for currently is why those laws are being repealed because such law was preventive in nature and can be abused by the government. The right to be heard in the court of justice is fundamental human right that we must adhered to since we have been member of United Nation.

The declaration of human right clearly stated that any prosecution must be done beyond reasonable doubt. The question is why Malaysia could not to see this problem before we invoke these law. Is our police can now work with new legal environment. Arrest-investigation-charge-sentence.

These legal step is some thing that we are not prepared to deal with. I know the feeling of Malaysian after all Kuala Lumpur is the 6th dangerous city in the world. No investor or tourist will come to Malaysia. No revenue to the government, another vicious cycle in the making. Where does the goon get the weapon. Why our investigation take a long time to complete. Is our DPPs competent in handling prosecution. Why our judges do not hand down tough sentence.

If the answer to all this is in affirmative no, then we might as well create new preventive law to ensure the safety of the people and the police force. We are indeed not ready to work in these new environment. I received complain from my police friends they have to work long hours without much compensation, cannot take leave during festive season, election time, esspecially when the emergency times... I'm also feel sad about them...

Time to think these over. We are able to give the excellent ideas, but unfortunately we have limited resources.

In the other words, "WELCOME TO THE NEW MEXICO IN SOUTHEAST ASIA!..."

Super Pendergast!...

If you have ever worked in or just loved a natural history museum, I recommend that you read both books. Of course you may never feel comfortable alone in a room full of shelving and specimens or even in a quiet exhibition hall, but you will also appreciate the specialness of that place.

Reading Preston and Child's descriptions of museum spaces and inner workings, I kept thinking to myself, "Do these guys work in a museum?". Sure enough, according to his bio on www.prestonchild.com Preston was editor, writer and manager of publications at AMNH. Which explains why the portrayals of the maze-like shadowy quietness of a large natural history collection is so perfect. As are the depictions of the tensions between museum staff and public perceptions of the museum from admiration to despising it as a welfare program.

The path of the story from 100 year old murders to present day crimes in some ways mirrors the museum. Secrets stored in locked underground facilities seem to be safe, but one never knows when just the right person will arrive and release them. Just as one never knows if those secrets will be for the betterment or the detriment of mankind once they are revealed. There are important ideas and information locked up in natural history collections and this story hints at how they can be lost if the collections are not studied.

Some of the descriptions of the crimes in this book are quite graphic, but if you can get over that and Agent Pendergast's 007-like skills, the story is compelling and it is hard to put down once you have started. I want more mystery in the museum, but for now I may have to settle for Agent Pendergast's Files. Hint, hint Ms
srs. Preston & Child.

Raya Dahulu, Raya Sekarang...

Dahulu kuih bahulu, kuih bangkit, kerepek pisang, kerepek bawang, tempeyek, batang burok. Sekarang biskut-biskut macam Almond London dan Chocolate Chips pun orang dah tak pandang. Ha!, lagi satu dulu kuih dibuat, sekarang kuih tunjuk!.

Maaf dipinta menyusun jari

Adat jauh kata mengata
Adat dekat puji memuji
Andai ada tersilap kata
Maaf dipinta sepuluh jari

Sungai disusur sepanjang sehari
Dalam gelap menangkap ikan
Hamba menyusun sepuluh jari
Salah dan silap harap maafkan

Selamat Hari Raya Eidul Fitri
Maaf zahir dan batin dari saya
Jashamsulnizam Md. Jani
